If you’ve ever had a newborn, you can relate: baby stuff in those first few weeks is expensive.
Don’t get me wrong, babies continue to be expensive – and I’m learning that children are even more expensive once you factor in extracurricular activities and school fundraisers. But when your one month old is whipping through diapers (even if you’re using cloth diapers!) and wipes like it’s a contest to see just how much money she can make you spend, it’s nice when your mother-in-law or bestie drops by with something other than really adorable onesies.
When I first heard about the Ding Dong Diaper Ditch, I was hooked. I loved the idea of surprising a new mom with a gift basket full of things that might make her week just a little bit easier. A few P&G Moms were given Pampers Swaddlers Diapers, Pampers Sensitive Wipes, Ivory Snow Liquid laundry detergent, a copy of Caring for Kids: The Complete Guide to Children’s Health and a Canada onesie. Keep reading for your chance to win a package so you can do your own Ding Dong Diaper Ditch.
You could put anything in your basket – even lasagna. I added some products that P&G had previously sent me but I am unlikely to use (an extra bottle of Ivory and another Canada onesie, Bounce Free & Sensitive dryer sheets and Ultra Downy Free & Sensitive liquid fabric softener), a baby lotion sample from Noodle & Boo that I had kicking around, and a little Sassy teether. I had a set of bath toys set aside, too, until Miss Q decided that ripping the package to shreds would be fun. I grabbed a bin from the dollar store and put it all together.
I don’t have any friends with new babies, so I asked around. I found someone with a really touching story. This deserving mom – and, yes, you are all deserving! – spent seven long years trying to get pregnant. With failed and complicated IVF treatments behind her, she just delivered her first baby five weeks prematurely. Fortunately, thankfully, mom and baby are both in perfect health.
So here’s how the Ding Dong Diaper Ditch Challenge works: put together a goody basket for someone with a new baby, drop it on a her doorstep and…RUN!
